THE SUMMER EVENTS SUN OF THE OSSAU VALLEY

In the Ossau valley, from May to September, the villages are on holiday.
A general programme is published in the various Offices du Tourisme, don't hesitate to request yours when arriving on site.

July-August:

Beginning of July: Ossau Valley festival organized by the Calendretta of Beost.
- Bearn songs contest.
- Games, danses etc etc...

ARTOUSTE-FABREGES: Workshops for the kids, tournaments, documentary and entertaining movie shows, conferences ....
LARUNS: Free shows, games for kids, bals, etc... (programme available at the Office du Tourisme).
LOUVIE-JUZON: International summer music concerts at church.
OSSAU VALLEY: Discovering the flora, the local history, the ancien stones...


Beginning of July: Transhumance, herds on the move to the mountains.

Mid-July: Festival of the folkloric band Le Cujala in Bielle.

July and beginning of August: International festival of Lanuza, on the lake side at about six miles after the spanish border, concerts, exhibitions, ballets.

Last week of July: Theater festival by the friends of the Falaise aux Vautours (the vulturs cliff): "Paroles en Ossau" (Words in Ossau).

15th of August: Feast of Laruns, traditionaly dressed people on parade, mass with traditional songs, danses on the village square, basque games, fun fair, bal, pyrotechnic show.

End of August: Feast of ARTOUSTE-FABREGES, you will admire the lake of Fabreges illuminated with a marvellous fireworks.

End of September: St Michel's fair in Béost, cattle fair, exhibition of sheep shearing, dogs training.

First week of October: To complete the season with a flourish, the city of Laruns comes back during a week end in the time of Henry the fourth. On saturday, an oldfashion market and on Sunday the cheese fair.

During these two days, various street shows are displayed (magicians, bear tamers, dog trainers etc...) On the topic of tradition and folklore (songs, danses music and costums) and of the sheperd's life.

The traditional "poule au pot" and the ewe's-milk cheese are served on all the tables of the village restaurants.
