Parade on 15 Aout festival	Twenty years ago, or even more, the tourist in a cafe of Laruns was often surprised to hear traditional songs by groups of youngsters. These frank and spontaneous songs translated the Ossau pride, the mountain love and the happiness to be together with friends. However some of them were full of nostalgia and gloom. Nothing written, no score, only the oral tradition, not to make a show but only to have the pleasure to sing together.

Unfortunately today, this tradition is part of the past. To avoid to have all these songs being forgotten, several groups in Laruns have been working hard to teach the youth about the traditional songs either in a formal way for the farmers and shepherds or on a more open basis, to share them with other singers from other mountain areas in France and in various foreign countries. Where and when can we here these songs ?
These songs are played during the August 15th festival of Laruns, performed in the streets, or also during some mass (Christmas, assumption etc...) During the bearnese song contests and during the "mountains in songs" festival on May 1st in Laruns. The traditional musicians play with the dancers and the singers. Their musical instruments are: the three holes flute, the stringed tambourin and the diatonic accordeon that replaced the violin during the last century.

The Los de Laruns group was one of those who continue to have the traditional Ossau songs alive.
